Cleaning up Bisbee parks may seem like an attack on those who revitalized Bisbee back in the 60's and 70's but it isn't. There is a difference. The immigrants of the 60's and 70's elevated a dying town, bringing energy and a new creative direction; they left a larger society behind to find a different approach to life. For the majority drugs were experimental and recreational. These new arrivals are not younger versions of us, for them drugs aren't experimental or recreational but a total ...

Well, the local election is pretty much done.

County, state and national issues are still upcoming, of course, but controversial Bisbee figures have all had their day before the voters, and those decisions have already been made.

So for now, I guess, there's not much to talk about. Life goes on.

But soon, no doubt, more Bisbee controversies will bubble up, and the Gulch Gestapo will take another shot at relevancy, and there will be more to debate, so it will be good to have this forum ...

Thank god for forums which don't require registration or the approval of a board or administration in order to gain registration or post an opinion. Those who demand to know who is posting are like those who want to remove the privacy of the ballot box. Only those who must resort to threats or intimidation in order to control things need either.

Since when is asking for direction from a department head for the purpose of clarification a violation of the sunshine law? Asking for clarification of an employee is hardly the same as meeting privately with another voting member outside of the view of the public. If we begin to classify those as a violation you soon won't be able to ask for directions to the bathroom with out doing it in a public session. Hope they have a lot of those scheduled!

We have some very dysfunctional posting criticizing Bisbee politics, its residents and past residents in our forums. It isn’t the opinions, personal politics, or age of the poster that is responsible, it is the poster’s absolute intransigence and ability to hold civil discourse. They no longer query or discuss, they speak in absolutes. Though intelligent enough to know and use multi-syllabic words their personal intransigence and name calling makes it almost impossible for them to be eloquent. ...

It’s obvious something has been affecting potential attendees, but what? Was it just the adult focused entertainment? I think the answer to that question may be as obvious as the number of negative comments appearing on Topix. People took steps to avoid what they were ...

Ironically his personal interests do sometimes coincide with the altruistic desire many have to preserve Bisbee culturally and protect it environmentally and that is what has mislead so may into thinking his issues were their issues. Bisbee is losing a great mayor, someone who has a passion for this city and who was concerned with the big picture. The remaining candidates aren't even close to matching his conviction and vision, and Bisbee is the loser for this.

After a rough start 4 years ago he learned a lot about how government works and became a huge proponent of this community at the local, state, and international levels. ...

BISBEE —

"The good news is no Bisbee city employees will be laid off. The bad news is that sewer and sanitation rates for Bisbee customers will go up.

In order to counter anticipated lost revenues, increases in expenses and delinquent accounts, the finance committee composed of three city council members, the city manager and the finance director met Wednesday to preview parts of the 2008-09 budget.
