We got the hot air

Is there any way that Bisbee can make money from the sale of windpower from this area? I mean if people are looking into it why should we let them use our area? Why can't we build our own wind turbines? Could it be a business that the town could own?

The enviornment is an important consideration as is the conservation but we have to figure out a way where the world AND Bisbee benefits if we do decide to allow the turbines. Leasing? A franchise?

They have yet to prove the efficacy of a windpower setup in the Mule Mountains.
Not all mountaintops have a consistent supply of strong, steady winds, and that's what it takes to generate power.
The best place for windpower is often in the flats like the ponds near Palm Springs.

True but we have to think and talk about it now. So if the study doesn't support it, no loss, but if it does... we need to talk about it now and have a researched and thought out response. We do not just want to be pushed into releasing a resource if that is what it turns out to be.

I am torn. I do not want to see the beautiful views spoiled but I also feel like we could be doing far worse. MINING!!

As for mining, there is no problem with MINING
because all the mining property is in the county, not the city.
Jeff Harris said that somewhere. He may not have noticed
that the way you get from Upper Bisbee to Lower Bisbee is
on the highway that runs across Freeport McMoran's property,
smack dab through one of the richest copper lodes around.
Jeff probably knows something we don't. Good thing he's running for city council.

So how about this? Instead of city council simply allowing a company to clutter our skyline forever with turbines why not approve it with the provision Bisbee gets a a percentage of the income raised from the turbines, ya know.. something like the royalties actors sometimes negotiate into their contracts in the case a series goes into re-runs?

I think the idea that Bisbee might be one of the first cities/towns actually to get windpower, is so in keeping with our image. It is clean and perfect for the planet, this chuff about it blighting the landscape or destroying the local beauty is limited thinking. Imagine if Holland had refused windmills. Expand your minds people, it's all relative. This would not only make Bisbee more unique it is an image I would be proud of.
