Guys, the comment was in reply to what Jack said, that he hadn't seen me since July. I responded by saying a bad penny always turns up. It was a self deprecating joke. The allusion being that I was the bad penny...at least to some.

Based on what I've seen from you, I suspected that it was meant as you say. At the same time, I could hear binky drooling in his cave, and thought it would be nice if the matter were to be clarified.
