Bisbee Welfare??

Why is the City of Bisbee paying for an airport? Sounds like 'Bisbee Welfare' to me. Why should a city as small as Bisbee have an airport? Sell it!! Let the handful with their hands out buy it. No more free ride for these freeloaders.

The expense of an airport for a city this size is definitely strange.

The airport does generate money in the form of Federal dollars and Grant money. You know, free money which Bisbee is so well known for abusing. Why does the City own the airport when it is in the County?

So many questions, so few answers.

Bisbee Municipal Airport is funded through the airport fund. The fund is maintained by profits the airport generates, primarily through fuel sales.

The airport has never received Federal money, grant money, etc. ? I thought the airport was losing money so how can there be any profits? What money was used to build that huge clubhouse--profits from fuel? How many airplanes fly in and out of the airport a day, week, month?

Sounds like a CLUB HOUSE to me.

Wasn't that "huge club house" built some 40-50 years ago?

You must be referring to the terminal for lack of a better name.The terminal must have been built decades ago. The so-called terminal has been used for living quarters for FBO's so they can take calls from pilots at all hours of the day and night, a place where air travelers can freshen up after landing, and a place where people can wait to meet guests from incoming airplanes. Once again the airport fund finances the airport including the terminal.

I don't know what you are trying to spin here, Sonora. Maybe you had better get some facts and answer some questions instead of giving vague responses. Where does the money come from for this Airport Fund you so often refer to? Does everyone throw in their extra pennies into a piggy bank? You can't make us believe that the airport exists on money made from fuel! Federal dollars, FDA money, grant money have all contributed to the airport--you can't kid a kidder. The airport is just another parasitic entity for Bisbee. Why does the City own the airport when it is in the County? Where would the City get the money to pay a full-time Manager? Why doesn't the County chip in--doesn't anyone from the County use the airport? Where are the feasibility studies? Those are some questions you need to answer for the people for starters.

What can I say, the funding for the airport comes from the airport fund, generated by revenues from the airport. Of course the 1.4 million dollar paving project going on right now at the airport is from the Federal Aviation Administration.

Jumping to conclusions before getting the facts is more common than not. This thread was a prime example. Those with the facts did not attack the poster but presented them . I admit jumping the gun on this issue and I was way off the beam. Pack mentality? You Betcha.

I did forget to mention that some of the funding for the airport comes from the LTAF, Local Transit Assistence Fund. This funding comes from the state government.

Zasu your admission in attempting to start a topic with no information is no better than the post you cite for being of a "pack mentality". Posters have a right to their opinions. Some people maybe have trouble believing someone they do no know. For now, there are still many questions that have not been answered about the airport. One admission came out about what the "Airport Fund" entailed, but still don't think that has been answered fully. Just resent your attitude that people who have questions about an issue are of a PACK MENTALITY. It really isn't your right to judge--now is it?

People who have questions on an issue do not have a pack mentality. A pack mentality arises when pure opportunists capitalize on a lack of knowledge to present allegations as fact rather than seek truth.

The yahoo from Riverside CA who has his undies in a bunch over the Bisbee budget is a dipwad. What is he talking about?
