How can the gay lib movement achieve it's ends and reduce the rejection of those who view their behavior not as a violation of a civil right but as a movement that alters the meaning of marriage? The Kwanzaa movement may offer a solution. There, a need was seen and a brand new ceremony and social institution was created. Instead of a marriage, why not a pairage? Instead of a wedding why not a blending? Creating a legal identity for such terms, along with the rights and responsibilities is a solution which would incorporate itself into our culture, religious ceremonies, and law without the necessity for one part of our culture to mimic a religious and social institution of another. Marriage was never only an implication of sexual union it also legitimized sexual procreation and protected the offspring of that union. Adoption was established to provide legal protection for children not legitimized through sexual procreation in marriage. Don't gay couples have a right to full protection for themselves and their children without using an artificial duplicate that suits neither their legal or social needs and circumstances?
